UP Government Hikes Anganwadi Worker Honorarium: ₹12,000 Monthly, Full Details Inside

UP CM Yogi Adityanath Big Announcement: Significant news has emerged for Uttar Pradesh residents. During an event in Ayodhya, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a 50% hike in the honorarium for Anganwadi workers. CM Yogi recalled the dismal state of Anganwadi workers and centres nine years ago. He stated that the honorarium for Anganwadi workers is being raised from ₹8,000 to ₹12,000.

About 1.5 lakh Anganwadi workers in the state will benefit from this announcement. The honorarium for Anganwadi helpers has also been increased from ₹2,000 to ₹6,000 over the last nine years. Additionally, they will receive ₹5 lakh in health insurance coverage and an extra saree from the government. CM Yogi made this announcement during a program in Ayodhya.

CM Yogi reflected on the condition of Anganwadi centres prior to 2017. He noted that the centres were dilapidated and disorganised; supplies (nutritional rations) did not reach the centres honestly, and when they failed to arrive, the Anganwadi workers and helpers faced the blame.

The dishonesty stemmed from the then-government; in Uttar Pradesh, the supply of Anganwadi rations and nutritional food was controlled by a liquor mafia. The government and the mafia colluded to ruin the system, leaving Anganwadi workers and helpers to face public criticism.

The Delhi CM tweeted on the social media platform X: “The honorarium that was previously ₹3,000 per month for Anganwadi workers has been increased to ₹8,000 per month… We are going to raise it further to ₹12,000 per month…”

CM Yogi further stated that before 2017, innocent children visiting Anganwadi centres had to bring their own floor mats; no drinking water was available, and quality nutritional rations were not provided. The Central Government provided funds, but the state government was apathetic. It would not make the necessary procurements; and if it did, the money would end up in the hands of the mafia. Consequently, Anganwadi centres remained desolate, and Anganwadi workers faced public scrutiny and criticism.

CM Yogi stated that prior to 2017, the supply of Anganwadi food rations and nutritional supplements in the state was controlled by a liquor mafia. Our government streamlined this system. Previously, Anganwadi workers received a monthly honorarium of ₹3,000; we increased it to ₹8,000, and we will now raise it to ₹12,000 per month.

Attack on the SP Government

CM Yogi Adityanath criticised the Samajwadi Party government during the event. He noted that before 2017, innocent children attending Anganwadi centres had to bring their own floor mats (*taat*) from home. These centres lacked drinking water facilities and did not provide quality nutritional food. The state’s apathetic government failed to procure food supplies despite receiving funds from the Centre; instead, the money went to the mafia, leaving Anganwadi workers to face the blame. We have transformed this situation.

Major Announcement by CM Yogi

The CM emphasised that when the development of Ayodhya Dham began—specifically the widening of roads—the Samajwadi Party opposed it; they also protested when we started constructing the railway station. They did not want the roads or the railway station to be built. Even when we began constructing an airport named after Maharshi Valmiki, the Samajwadi Party launched a protest. They are anti-development.
