Rani Laxmibai Scooty Scheme: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step towards promoting higher education for young women and fostering their self-reliance. Guidelines for the ‘Rani Laxmibai Scooty Scheme’ were approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Under this scheme, eligible female students will receive a free scooty. The Yogi government has passed the proposal for the scooty scheme for the 2025-26 academic year. Scooties will be awarded to the top 5% of female students in every college who pass their exams in the 2025-26 session.

The primary objective of this scheme is to encourage meritorious female students in the state to pursue higher education. The government has established clear rules regarding eligibility, the selection process, and the procurement and distribution of the scooties. If you or a young woman in your family wishes to avail the benefits of this scheme, it is important to first understand all the rules.

What are the scheme’s conditions?

Under the Rani Laxmibai Scooty Scheme, scooties will be provided only to female students who are bona fide residents of the state. Regarding academic qualifications, meritorious female students pursuing undergraduate studies in government or private colleges are eligible. The top 5% of meritorious female students from the graduating batch of each institution are selected for this purpose.

Family income is also a criterion for participation in the scheme. A student is considered eligible only if her family’s total annual income is less than ₹12 lakh. However, priority is given to differently-abled students, as well as those from destitute backgrounds or families of martyrs.

What is provided along with the scooty?

Along with the free scooty, the government provides 5 litres of petrol free of cost at the outset. Additionally, the government covers the cost of a helmet, RTO registration, and vehicle insurance for the students.

Required documents

Certain documents are required to avail the benefits of this scheme. These include an Aadhaar card, proof of residence, an income certificate, 10th- and 12th-grade marksheets and undergraduate degree/marksheets, a college ID card, a bank passbook, a passport-sized photograph, and a phone number.
