TVS Motor, a prominent player in the global two-wheeler and three-wheeler industry, is all set to revolutionize mobility with its foray into electric vehicles. The company’s latest endeavor involves the electrification of its iconic XL model, marking a significant step towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions. Recently, TVS registered two new names, hinting at the imminent launch of an electric XL variant.
TVS XL
The TVS XL holds a special place in the hearts of many, particularly in rural areas and intra-city delivery services. Its robust performance and versatile utility have made it a favorite among a diverse range of consumers. With over 41,000 units sold in February 2024 alone, the XL continues to command a significant market presence. Now, with an electric version on the horizon, TVS aims to further expand its reach and appeal.
New Possibilities
Earlier this year, TVS Holdings Ltd secured trademarks for two new names: TVS E-XL and TVS XL EV. These trademarks signify the company’s commitment to electrifying its XL lineup. While both names hold potential, it remains to be seen which one will adorn the upcoming electric XL model. Nevertheless, the registration of these names indicates TVS’s strategic focus on electric mobility.
Designs
Leaked patent designs offer valuable insights into the electric XL’s specifications and features. Unlike traditional ICE models, the electric variant will feature a mid-mounted motor and chain drive system.
The placement of the electric batteries beneath the main frame ensures optimal weight distribution and retains the XL’s familiar silhouette. Furthermore, the instrument cluster will provide essential information about the electric powertrain, while the overall componentry remains consistent with the ICE version.
Performance and Pricing
The electric XL is projected to feature a 2 kWh battery with a claimed range of 100 km on a full charge. This puts it in direct competition with other electric mopeds in the market, such as the recently launched Kinetic E-Luna.
Considering its competitive pricing strategy, TVS aims to offer the electric XL at a price point that makes it accessible to a wide range of consumers. With the ICE XL 100 starting at Rs. 46,000, the electric variant is expected to be priced slightly higher, around Rs. 20,000 more.
Decision
As TVS prepares to introduce the electric XL to the market, it underscores the company’s commitment to pioneering sustainable mobility solutions. By leveraging its expertise and innovation, TVS aims to cater to the evolving needs of consumers while contributing to a greener and cleaner future.
