Renault, a key player in the automotive industry, is gearing up to expand its lineup with the introduction of the Renault Duster 7-Seater, also known as the Bigster. With the SUV segment witnessing remarkable growth, Renault aims to cater to the evolving needs of consumers by offering a spacious and versatile option in the mid-size SUV category.
Performance
The Renault Duster 7-Seater is expected to inherit powertrain options from its smaller counterpart, the new-gen Duster 5-Seater. Among the available engines is a 1.0-litre petrol-LPG unit, tailored for select markets. Another option is a 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit with a hybrid setup, boasting a 48V starter motor and delivering a maximum power output of 130 hp.

Additionally, the Duster 7-Seater will offer a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol hybrid, equipped with a 1.2kW battery and two electric motors. This hybrid configuration allows for pure electric driving for up to 80% of the time, paired with an automatic gearbox. Notably, Renault’s focus on hybrid and electrification means that the Duster 7-Seater is unlikely to feature a diesel option.
Styling and Features
In terms of design, the Renault Duster 7-Seater is expected to maintain the overall aesthetic philosophy of the new-gen Duster 5-Seater. However, to distinguish itself, there may be subtle changes to the front fascia and rear. Given its larger dimensions, the Duster 7-Seater, or Bigster, will feature alterations to accommodate its extended size.
Renault’s decision to name the 7-Seater version Bigster hints at its larger stature, with an estimated length of around 4.6 meters compared to the 4.34 meters of the new-gen Duster. This elongation will necessitate adjustments to the side profile, including larger rear doors and a slightly longer wheelbase.
Market Competition
Renault plans to introduce the all-new Duster in India by mid-2025, followed by the launch of the Bigster. The staggered release allows Renault to prioritize the new Duster initially before shifting focus to the Bigster. Both models will be based on the CMF-B platform, shared with other Renault-Nissan vehicles.
Once launched, the Renault Bigster will compete with formidable rivals such as the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector Plus in the Indian market. Meanwhile, the new-gen Duster will take on competitors like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, and Honda Elevate.
