Volvo Car India has just opened the doors to a new chapter in electric mobility with the launch of the XC40 Recharge ‘Plus’ variant. Formerly known as the ‘Single’ variant, this entry-level offering is now available for bookings online through the Volvo Car India website.

With a booking amount of just Rs 1 lakh, customers can secure their spot for this cutting-edge electric SUV, priced at Rs 54.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Produced at Volvo’s Hoskote facility in Karnataka, the XC40 Recharge Plus promises an exhilarating driving experience coupled with sustainable performance.

Performance and Efficiency

The XC40 Recharge Plus is powered by a single motor that drives the rear wheels, delivering a peak output of 238 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. While it may not match the acceleration prowess of its ‘Ultimate’ counterpart, clocking 0-100 kmph in 7.3 seconds, it still offers impressive performance capabilities.

Moreover, despite featuring a slightly smaller 69 kWh battery pack compared to the Ultimate variant’s 78 kWh, the XC40 Recharge Plus offers an impressive range of up to 475 kilometres on a single charge, as per WLTP cycle standards. Notably, this new variant also comes at a more accessible price point, undercutting the Ultimate trim by nearly Rs 3 lakh.

Features and Equipment

While the XC40 Recharge Plus offers exceptional value for money, it does come with some differences in equipment compared to the Ultimate variant. Notable omissions include fog lamps, ‘Pixel LED’ headlights (replaced with standard LED headlights), 360-degree cameras (substituted with a reverse camera), and power child safety locks.

Additionally, features such as side parking assist and the 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system have been replaced with an eight-speaker setup. Despite these differences, the XC40 Recharge Plus continues to uphold Volvo’s commitment to safety and innovation.

Naming Scheme

In addition to the launch of the XC40 Recharge Plus, Volvo has also announced changes to its vehicle naming and nomenclature system. As part of this revised scheme, the ‘Recharge’ sub-brand will be discontinued from Volvo’s all-electric and plug-in hybrid model lineup.

Internationally, the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge will now be known as EX40 and EC40, respectively. While this change will be implemented globally, Volvo Cars India will continue to use the existing names for the XC40 and C40 EVs for the time being.

With these exciting updates, Volvo is reaffirming its commitment to sustainable mobility and innovation, paving the way for a greener future on Indian roads.
