Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently initiated the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, aiming to provide free electricity benefits of up to 300 units per month to households.
This scheme targets to benefit over a crore families across the nation, with the central government allocating a whopping investment of ₹75,000 crores. Additionally, the government plans to provide subsidies to eligible beneficiaries.
How to Apply
To avail of the subsidies, individuals must have solar panels installed on their rooftops. The subsidy will be granted only upon the installation of solar panels on the roof. The application process for installing solar panels can be completed on the official website
To apply
- Visit the official website mentioned above and select “Apply for Rooftop Solar.”
- Choose your state and electricity distribution company.
- Enter your consumer number, mobile number, and email address.
- Log in with your consumer number and mobile number on the new page.
- Follow the provided instructions to apply for rooftop solar panels.
- Upon completion, you will receive feasibility approval, allowing you to install the plant with any registered vendor associated with your DISCOM.
Requirements
After the installation of solar panels, applicants must apply for a net meter along with plant details. Once the net meter is installed and verified by the DISCOM, a commissioning certificate will be issued through the portal, indicating successful enrollment in the scheme.
However, to receive the subsidy, applicants must upload specific documents and provide bank account details for subsidy disbursement.
Subsidy Details
Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the installation of solar panels on rooftops incurs an estimated cost of ₹47,000. To ease this financial burden, the government offers a subsidy of ₹18,000, thereby reducing the expense to ₹29,000 for beneficiaries.
