Traffic Challenges: The administration is adopting a strict stance to prevent road accidents and ensure compliance with traffic rules. The administration has made it clear that drivers who repeatedly violate traffic regulations will face stringent action, including the potential cancellation of their driving licences. This decision was reached during a meeting of the Divisional Road Safety Committee in Agra. It was specified that if a vehicle accumulates more than five traffic challans, the driver’s licence will be cancelled.
The meeting, held at the Divisional Commissioner’s office, was chaired by Divisional Commissioner Nagendra Pratap Singh. Discussions focused on preventing accidents on motorways—particularly during the winter season and periods of heavy fog—as well as addressing the growing problem of traffic congestion.
Action to be taken against those operating rented auto rickshaws and e-rickshaws
The increasing number of auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws in the city is exacerbating traffic congestion. In response, the administration has devised a robust plan to tackle this issue. Shailesh Kumar Pandey has issued directives to identify individuals who operate e-rickshaws or auto-rickshaws on a rental basis.
According to the regulations, only e-rickshaws with valid licences will be permitted on the roads. Owners of e-rickshaws operating illegally may face legal action.
Strict safety directives issued
During the Road Safety Committee meeting, a report presented by the Transport and Police departments indicated a decline in incidents involving the failure to wear helmets, the use of mobile phones while driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol over the past few months. Conversely, there has been an increase in instances of drivers failing to wear seatbelts and driving against the flow of traffic. Additionally, fog tends to increase significantly during the winter season; in light of this, instructions have been issued to lower speed limits, prune trees, install signage, and increase the number of available ambulances and cranes.
