Ahead of IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday appointed former New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee as their new bowling coach. Southee has played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2021, 2022 and 2023 IPL seasons. He will replace Bharat Arun as KKR coach. He will work closely with head coach Abhishek Nayar, mentor Dwayne Bravo and newly appointed assistant coach Shane Watson.
He played a key role in the 2019 ICC World Cup campaign and the 2021 ICC World Test Championship win. Tim Southee was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 IPL seasons. He announced his retirement from international cricket in 2025.

Queenslandβs Shane Watson, who has played 59 Tests, 190 ODIs, and 58 T20 Internationals, previously served in the same role with the Delhi Capitals (DC) under Ricky Ponting. After a three-year hiatus, he is returning to the IPL coaching role, providing KKR with the potential to benefit greatly from his extensive experience and strategic understanding.
