Rohit Sharma practiced for about two hours at Shivaji Park on Friday with his former Mumbai Ranji teammate Abhishek Nayar ahead of the Australia tour. Nayar was also the Indian team’s batting coach until recently. Rohit was recently appointed as the captain of the Indian ODI team, replacing Shubman Gill. Rohit will return to action during the three-match series against Australia starting October 19 in Perth.

Mumbai cricketer Angkrish Raghuvanshi and some other local players were present during the practice session at the All Heart Cricket Academy. The 38-year-old Rohit last played for India in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand in February this year. Under his captaincy, India won their second consecutive ICC title in the form of the Champions Trophy in 2024, following T20 World Cup victories in the USA and the West Indies.

Rohit’s future has been in constant question, but he has been included in the squad for the Australia ODI series along with his old teammate Virat Kohli. Both legendary batsmen have retired from Test and T20 Internationals in the past year. Rohit, Kohli and newly appointed ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer will join the Indian team, currently playing the second Test against the West Indies, in New Delhi on October 15 before departing for Australia in two separate groups.
