New Delhi:  India has secured a place in the Champions Trophy final for the fifth time, following their victories in 2000, 2002, 2013, and 2017. In a thrilling semi-final clash on Tuesday night, the Indian team outclassed Australia by four wickets to book their spot in the grand finale.

The star of the match was Virat Kohli, who played a crucial knock of 84 runs, setting the stage for India’s chase. However, the real fireworks came towards the end when Hardik Pandya unleashed his aggressive batting, sending the crowd into a frenzy. His explosive 28-run innings, which included three towering sixes, electrified the Dubai International Stadium. One of his massive sixes, measured at 106 meters, even landed near ICC Chairman Jay Shah, while another nearly reached the Indian dressing room, where head coach Gautam Gambhir was watching the action unfold.

India’s Chase Under Pressure

Chasing a target of 265, India faced tense moments when Kohli departed after a well-crafted 84. At that stage, the team still needed 40 runs from 44 balls. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya then took charge, gradually steering India closer to victory.

With 24 balls remaining and 27 runs still required, Pandya shifted gears and hammered two back-to-back sixes off Adam Zampa, bringing India within touching distance of the target. His intent to finish the game quickly was evident, but in an attempt to clear the ropes again, he was dismissed after scoring 28 off 24 balls.

KL Rahul Finishes the Job

Despite Pandya’s dismissal, KL Rahul remained composed and finished the game in style with a six, ensuring India’s place in the final. His steady innings of 42 runs played a vital role in stabilizing the chase.

Australia’s Effort Falls Short

Earlier, Australia, after opting to bat first, posted a total of 264 in 49.3 overs. Steve Smith was their top scorer with a resilient 73 off 96 balls, while Travis Head added a quick 39. For India, apart from Kohli’s heroics, Shreyas Iyer contributed 45 runs, while Rahul and Pandya made significant contributions in the middle order. With this win, India advances to the final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand on March 9.
