Only three batsmen have surpassed 28,000 runs in international cricket, joining Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara in this list. He completed 28,000 runs by hitting a four. Kohli needed 25 runs to reach this figure. Kohli became the third cricketer in the world to achieve this feat in international cricket.

He reached 28,000 international runs in his 624th innings, making him the batsman to reach this milestone in the fewest innings in international cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar reached his 28,000 runs in 644 innings, while Kumar Sangakkara reached 28,000 runs in 666 innings. Before the first ODI of the series against New Zealand, Virat Kohli had scored 27,975 runs in 623 innings of 556 international matches at an average of 52.58. During this period, he also scored 84 centuries and 145 half-centuries. Virat Kohli has been dismissed for a duck 40 times in international cricket so far.
