Champions Trophy: Rohit Sharma will have a big responsibility on his shoulders during the final match of Champions Trophy 2025 to be held on March 9 at Dubai ground. The Indian team will take on New Zealand. Before this, Hitman has got a big shock. The cricket pitch and nets present in the school where he studied, where he learnt the ABCs of cricket, have now been removed. MHADA took this action against Rohit Sharma’s school. Hitman studied in Swami Vivekanand International School (SVIS) located in Gorai, Mumbai.

Rohit Sharma got a shock

Rohit Sharma honed his cricketing skills while playing on this ground. This ground is owned by the state housing agency i.e. Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). Apart from cricket, football is also played on this ground. MHADA has now removed the cricket turf and football net present here. MHADA claims that the school is using this ground for ‘commercial gain’. Demolition action was taken on Wednesday and Thursday.

The school claims to provide free training

School principal Amrita Verma denied commercial use of the ground, according to a report in the Times of India newspaper. Rohit’s cricket coach and Dronacharya awardee Dinesh Lad has been training students from small towns and villages at the SVIS ground for free for the past 29 years. He said, “I met MHADA officials and requested them to stop the demolition and give the school some time to resolve the issue, but they did not pay any heed to my request.”

The ground produced 100 cricket champions

Disappointed Lad said, “This ground has produced about 100 champion cricketers. Now with the removal of this net, the boundary between the football and cricket sections will be erased. Children will not be able to play.” SVIS has produced cricketers like India’s all-rounder Shardul Thakur, Harmeet Singh, who played in the Under-19 World Cup and now represents the USA, and Siddesh Lad, who played for India ‘A’.
