Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) mentor Dinesh Karthik admitted that even though they had asked for a batting-friendly pitch, the team got challenging pitches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium this season. He said the team management will soon talk to the pitch curator about this.
The RCB batters could not perform as expected in the two home matches of the current Indian Premier League (IPL) season because of the slow pitch. The team scored 169 runs for 8 wickets against the Gujarat Titans and 163 runs for 7 wickets against the Delhi Capitals. Karthik believes that the team should have had the advantage of home conditions. Usually, big scores are made on this pitch, but that hasn’t been the case this time.
“We Asked for a Good Pitch, But Didn’t Get It” – Karthik
RCB mentor Dinesh Karthik said after the match against Delhi, “In the first two matches, we had asked for a good pitch, but we got one where batting was very tough. We tried our best in those conditions, but now we need to talk to the curator. We believe he will do his job well.”
He added, “There hasn’t been a pitch here that helped the batsmen. Both matches at this venue had the same kind of slow pitch.”
“Fours and Sixes Are Important in T20s”
Karthik also spoke about the importance of high-scoring games. He said, “Long shots, fours, and sixes are very important in T20 cricket. Broadcasters and fans enjoy high-scoring games. We all want to see that. We will do whatever we can to make that happen.”
“Difficult to Rotate Strike on Slow Pitches”
The former Indian wicketkeeper explained how slow pitches affect the game. “We don’t follow a fixed plan for every match. We try to understand the pitch and play accordingly. On pitches like Chinnaswamy this season, it has been hard to rotate strike and hit big shots. But this is T20. You have to take some risks, and sometimes you lose your wicket in the process.”
Royal Challengers Bengaluru batting coach Dinesh Karthik hinted that the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch has not delivered what the team management desires after two losses in two home games.

Other Teams Also Unhappy with Pitches
Before this, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane, LSG mentor Zaheer Khan, and officials from Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings also raised concerns about their home pitches. They feel they are not getting the home advantage because of unsuitable pitches. However, BCCI is reportedly satisfied with the pitch conditions in IPL matches.
