Mumbai Indians won on Thursday as well as on Laxmi Bar. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede. This was the first time in the current IPL that Mumbai won two consecutive matches. On the same day, a stand named ‘Rohit Hitman Sharma’ was set up again at Wankhede. Rohit also completed a century of sixes at this ground on Thursday. He hit two sixes in the match. Now, his total sixes in the IPL at Wankhede have reached 102. Captain Rohit, who led India to two ICC trophies, looked in good touch for the first time this season against Hyderabad. He scored 26 runs off 16 balls before getting out. However, it seems the ‘Hitman’ might soon become part of the past. Questions are now being raised about his form.

Rohit Sharma’s Form Worries Fans and Experts

Rohit Sharma has scored only 84 runs in 6 matches so far in the current IPL season. His performance is being called a ‘super flop.’ Seeing Rohit struggle like this, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag said, “Rohit should retire now.”

Sehwag’s Sharp Comment on Rohit

Nawab of Najafgarh, Virender Sehwag, is well known for his bold and sarcastic statements. This time too, his words about Rohit caught everyone’s attention. Many cricket experts believe Sehwag’s comment is not just sarcasm, but a serious truth.

Even though Mumbai fans still have strong emotions for Rohit, his bat has lost its old spark.

Rohit’s Poor IPL Stats Since 2013

Rohit has not scored 500 runs in a single IPL season since 2013. In the last 10 years, he managed to cross the 400-run mark only 4 times.

Between 2016 and 2023, his average never crossed 30 in any season. The only exception was in 2021, when he scored 381 runs at an average of 29 from 13 matches.

Strike Rate Also Under Question

Rohit’s strike rate has never been very high in IPL. Interestingly, his best strike rate was in the last season — 150. Despite that, his consistency has been missing, and that’s why questions about his place and future are being raised.

Sehwag’s Advice to Rohit

In an interview with Cricbuzz, Sehwag said:

“It is time for Rohit to retire. But before retiring, he should give fans something memorable, something that people can remember forever.”

Sehwag Highlights Rohit’s Last 10 Years of Stats

Sehwag also pointed out Rohit’s weak numbers over the last decade:

“If you check Rohit’s IPL stats in the last 10 years, you’ll see he scored over 400 runs only once. When he became the captain of India, he promised to take risks in the powerplay and make sacrifices. But he has not lived up to that. When a player does not perform, his own legacy gets affected.”

Sehwag Questions Rohit’s Shot Selection

Sehwag also raised concerns about Rohit’s way of getting out:

“Take 10 more balls, but stay on the pitch. At least give yourself a chance. He gets out again and again while playing pull shots or back-of-the-length balls. Rohit should decide not to play the pull shot even once in an innings. But the real question is — who will explain this to Rohit? Someone should guide him to play simple, normal cricket.”
