Lyon then produced a remarkable performance by dismissing Ben Duckett on the last ball of the over, with Duckett departing after scoring 29 runs. Lyon thus surpassed legendary bowler Glenn McGrath for the most wickets in Test cricket. Lyon now has 564 wickets in Test cricket, while McGrath had taken 563 wickets in 243 innings of 124 Test matches. Lyon is now only behind legendary spinner Shane Warne for the most Test wickets for Australia, with Warne taking 708 Test wickets.

By surpassing McGrath, Nathan Lyon has also become the sixth-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. Lyon now trails only Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, James Anderson, Anil Kumble, and Stuart Broad in the list of greatest Test bowlers. Lyon now has a chance to surpass Broad, but he will need to take 41 more wickets to achieve this feat.
