New Delhi: In the second semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025, New Zealand secured a dominant 50-run victory over South Africa, booking their spot in the final. The highly anticipated India vs New Zealand final will be held on March 9 in Dubai. Earlier, India defeated Australia by four wickets in the first semi-final on March 4.

New Zealand’s Batting Dominance

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Their batting lineup delivered a spectacular performance, setting a record total of 362 runs—the highest score in Champions Trophy history. Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson stole the show with their centuries, Ravindra scoring 108 runs while Williamson added 102 runs to the total. In the final overs, Glenn Phillips played a quickfire 49-run knock, helping New Zealand reach a mammoth total.

South Africa’s Struggles Continue in Knockouts

South Africa, often labeled as “chokers” due to their history of falling short in ICC tournaments, once again failed in a crucial knockout match. Despite being unbeaten in the group stage and topping Group B, they couldn’t withstand the pressure of the semi-final.

David Miller’s Heroics in Vain

Chasing a record target of 363 runs, South Africa had a decent start, with captain Temba Bavuma scoring 56 runs and Rassie van der Dussen contributing 69 runs. However, they struggled to build substantial partnerships in the middle overs. David Miller fought hard with a stunning century, scoring 100 off 67 balls, including 10 fours and 4 sixes. But his valiant effort wasn’t enough as South Africa fell short by 50 runs.

With this emphatic win, New Zealand enters the final, where they will face India on March 9 in Dubai, aiming to clinch the prestigious Champions Trophy 2025 title.
