Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has decided to leave Chennai Super Kings. He has told the team about his wish to leave. Ashwin returned to CSK after 9 years in the 2025 IPL. The franchise bought him for ₹9.75 crore in the mega auction.
Ashwin started his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings. He played for CSK from 2010 to 2015. From 2016 to 2024, he played for different teams like Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals. In 2025, after 9 years, he came back to play for CSK again.
Ashwin Ends Association with CSK and Its Academy
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Ashwin has decided to part ways with Chennai Super Kings. He has informed the franchise about his decision. However, the reason behind his decision has not been revealed yet.
Ashwin will not only leave CSK but also step down as the Director of Operations of the CSK Academy. He took this role only last year.
The report says Ashwin does not want any conflict of interest if he joins another team while still being connected to CSK Academy. So, he will end his ties with both CSK and its academy.
A Tough Season for Ashwin and CSK
IPL 2025 was not good for Ashwin or CSK. He played 9 matches but took only 7 wickets. His batting also struggled, scoring just 33 runs in those games.
For CSK, IPL 2025 was like a nightmare. They finished as the worst team in the points table.
