Unlucky’ — no player or person likes to be called by this word. But sometimes, no matter how hard someone tries, if luck is not on their side, nothing works out. A similar moment was seen with Karun Nair in the 32nd match of IPL 2025.
The match was played between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Delhi got their first blow at the score of 34 runs. Jack Fraser-McGurk (9) was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal off Jofra Archer’s bowling. After that, Karun Nair, who was the hero of the last match, came to the crease.
Nair’s Unlucky Run Out
Karun Nair played an outstanding innings in the last match for Delhi Capitals. After a brilliant performance in domestic cricket, Nair had set his sights on making a comeback to the Indian team through a strong showing in the IPL. He proved his class against Mumbai Indians by scoring 89 runs off just 40 balls, hitting 12 fours and five sixes.
Delhi Capitals were hopeful that Nair would continue his strong performance against Rajasthan Royals as well. But unfortunately, luck was not on his side. Nair’s innings lasted only three balls, as he was run out without opening his account. His disappointed expression showed just how much he was hurt by the early exit.
A Costly Miscommunication
Karun Nair was run out on the first ball of the fourth over. Abhishek Porel tried to play a big shot off Sandeep Sharma’s delivery, but his timing was off. The ball hit his bat and went towards point. Nair ran for a single, but Porel, for some reason, refused the run.
Wanindu Hasaranga, who was positioned at point, quickly ran to the ball, passed it to the bowler, Sandeep Sharma. Sandeep threw the ball at the stumps, and although Nair was running back, his bat was a few inches outside the crease when the stumps were broken. The replay confirmed that Nair was out of his crease.
Can Nair Bounce Back Stronger?
The third umpire ruled in favor of Rajasthan Royals, and Nair had to return to the pavilion, clearly disappointed. This incident highlights how important luck can be in cricket. It will be interesting to see how Karun Nair bounces back from this setback and how he performs for his team in future matches.
