Former Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has made a bold prediction about run-machine Virat Kohli. Gavaskar claims that Kohli can equal Sachin Tendulkar’s world record for most centuries. Gavaskar also claims that Kohli can play even after the 2027 World Cup. Currently, Virat is only active in One Day International cricket and was named Player of the Series in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against South Africa, scoring two centuries and an unbeaten half-century.
Bold prediction by Sunil Gavaskar
Virat Kohli has scored 84 centuries in international cricket. He already holds the record for most centuries in a single format, and Sunil Gavaskar said on JioHost, “Why not? If he plays for three more years, he should score 16 more centuries from here.” Kohli scored 302 runs in the ODI series against South Africa. This was the first time he had scored 300 or more runs in a three-match ODI series.
“The way he is batting, he has scored two centuries in the three-match series. Going forward, if he scores two more centuries in the three-match series against New Zealand, he will reach 86. So his chances of reaching 100 are very, very good.”

The way he is batting, he is enjoying himself. The way he batted today (Saturday), knowing that the match was almost in India’s grasp – he knew that the openers had laid a good foundation and they would be followed by batsmen in good form,” Gavaskar said after the match.
Team India has approximately 35 ODI matches to play until the 2027 World Cup. Scoring 16 centuries during this time is extremely difficult. If he plays after the World Cup, he can certainly reach 100 centuries. However, one thing is certain: he can easily score more than 90 centuries. He is currently 36 years old and is batting strongly even in the final stages of his career. He has scored three centuries in his last 10 innings.
