‘King’ Release Date, Cast & Pre-Release Business – The discussions going on about Shahrukh Khan’s ‘King’ are really interesting. The film has not been released yet, but if reports are to be believed, it has already done a business of Rs 665 crore before its release. This may sound surprising, but it is important to understand the mathematics behind this figure.
First of all, know this: where did Rs 665 crore come from?
The rights of the film have been sold in several parts. The theatrical rights in India have been sold to Penn Marudhar for around Rs 250 crore, while the overseas distribution rights have been taken by Farce Films in a minimum guarantee deal of Rs 175 crore. That means an entry of Rs 425 crore has been made from theatre rights alone.
Apart from this, Netflix has bought the digital rights for around Rs 150 crore. Yes, this deal is linked to the box office performance of the film, that is, if the film does well, the amount may increase; if it does not do, it may also decrease. Music rights were sold for Rs 65 crores and satellite rights for Rs 25 crores. If you add all these together, it becomes Rs 665 crores.

It is important to understand one thing here. 665 crores does not at all mean that Shahrukh has earned so much profit. This is the amount raised by selling rights, and the production cost has to be deducted from it. According to reports, the budget of the film is around Rs 400 crore, which does not include Shahrukh’s acting fees. If their fees are also included, then the cost reaches around Rs 500 crore. On top of that, there are also promotion and release expenses.
So the simple thing is, the real profit of the film will be when people will buy tickets in large numbers in the theatre. Distributors would like to earn well at the box office to recover their money. Some reports have claimed that the film may have to earn around Rs 800 crore worldwide to break even.

Siddharth Anand is directing ‘King’. Shahrukh is playing the role of a don in the film, who will be in the grey area. Deepika Padukone is his heroine, and Suhana Khan will also be seen.
