SBI FD: To securely grow your savings by investing in a fixed deposit (FD), understanding the interest rates is essential. The State Bank of India (SBI), the largest public sector bank in the country, offers varying interest rates for fixed deposits of different durations to general customers and senior citizens. The current FD rates by SBI have been in effect since December 15, 2025, applying to deposits less than Rs 3 crore. Short-term FDs provide lower interest rates, while longer-term investments can generate higher returns. Therefore, selecting the appropriate option based on individual needs and investment timeframe is crucial.

SBI’s general FD plans are particularly attractive for tenures under 2 years and under 3 years. General customers receive an annual interest rate of 6.40 percent, whereas senior citizens earn 6.90 percent. The bank’s unique scheme, “Amrit Varshi” (444 days), offers 6.45 percent interest to general customers and up to 6.95 percent to senior citizens. These rates can be beneficial for investors looking for secure returns over the medium term, with senior citizens enjoying additional interest, thus boosting their overall earnings.

For shorter investment periods, SBI provides various options. FDs spanning from 7 to 45 days yield 3.05 percent interest for general customers and 3.55 percent for senior citizens. The interest rate for FDs ranging from 46 to 179 days increases to 4.90 percent for general customers and 5.40 percent for senior citizens. Moreover, FDs between 180 to 210 days offer 5.65 percent interest for the general public and 6.15 percent for senior citizens. Similarly, FDs from 211 days to less than a year provide 5.90 percent interest for general customers and 6.40 percent for senior citizens.

Long-term investors have multiple options as well. For FDs under one year and under two years, general customers receive 6.25 percent interest, while senior citizens receive 6.75 percent. FDs ranging from less than three years to less than five years offer interest rates of 6.30 percent and 6.80 percent, respectively. For those willing to invest for a longer period, FDs maturing in 5 to 10 years can fetch interest rates of up to 6.05% for general customers and up to 7.05% for senior citizens, presenting one of the most competitive rates for the latter.

Fixed deposits continue to be a preferred choice for investors due to their safety and assurance of fixed returns, devoid of market uncertainties. This makes them an ideal option for risk-averse individuals, retirees, and those seeking a steady income. Nevertheless, it is crucial to evaluate your financial requirements, investment duration, and tax implications before making a decision. Opting for the right tenure is key to maximizing returns. It is advisable to verify the most recent interest rates on the SBI website or at your nearest branch before finalizing any investment.
