Rule Change: September begins tomorrow, Tuesday. Several significant changes to LPG and PNG are set to take effect, directly impacting the lives of the common man. If you use cooking gas daily in your household, you must know these new guidelines. These changes include price fluctuations, new connections, and e-KYC updates.

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) revise the prices of 14.2 kg domestic cylinders and 19 kg commercial cylinders on the first of every month. Let us take a look at the changes coming into effect tomorrow.

Changes to LPG Rules

Rules regarding LPG e-KYC are set to change. Oil companies had previously extended the deadline for customers to complete the e-KYC process to August 31. According to media reports and information from the Ministry of Petroleum, consumers who have failed to complete their e-KYC by the deadline may face temporary suspension or disconnection of their LPG service. Furthermore, failure to complete e-KYC could render customers ineligible for subsidised domestic gas cylinder rates, potentially forcing them to purchase domestic cylinders at commercial rates.

In addition to e-KYC, a new incentive scheme aimed at promoting the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) is being implemented starting September 1. The government’s objective is to rapidly expand access to safe and convenient piped cooking gas in urban areas. Under this scheme, customers who obtain a new home PNG connection will have a 30-day window to surrender their existing LPG connection.

Will Gas Cylinder Prices Rise?

Domestic LPG prices remained stable throughout August. However, commercial cylinder prices dropped by ₹192, settling at ₹2,738. Consequently, ordinary consumers are eagerly awaiting a reduction in domestic cylinder prices. Whether domestic gas prices will decrease, increase, or remain unchanged in September will only be known on September 1st.

New LPG cylinder prices will be released on September 1st, which will directly impact household kitchen budgets. On August 1, companies reduced the price of 19-kg commercial gas cylinders by ₹202.
