Xiaomi's Redmi A-series has always been the go-to choice for budget-conscious shoppers, and the new Redmi A3 raises the bar yet again. With a premium glass design, a smooth 90Hz display, and a massive battery, this phone challenges everything we expect from a device in its price range. But does it deliver where it truly counts? Let’s take a closer look.
Design: A Glass Back on a Budget? Seriously?
The moment you hold the Redmi A3, its glass back (with a hypoallergenic silicone-based finish) immediately stands out—a rare luxury in this segment. Available in Olive Green, Lake Blue, and Midnight Black, it features a striking halo-style camera module reminiscent of far more expensive phones. Practicality isn’t sacrificed, though: it includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, a dedicated microSD slot (expandable up to 1TB), and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. At just 8.3mm thick, it feels sleek and comfortable in hand.
Display: Smooth Scrolling on a Spacious Screen
The Redmi A3 features a 6.71-inch HD+ IPS LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate—a first for the A-series. This means noticeably smoother scrolling and animations compared to standard 60Hz displays. While the 720p resolution isn’t the sharpest, it’s bright enough for indoor use and comes with TÜV Rheinland certification for reduced eye strain. It’s a solid screen for YouTube, browsing, and light gaming.
Performance: Basics Handled with Ease
Powered by the MediaTek Helio G36 processor, this phone is built for everyday essentials:
Social media, messaging, and web browsing run smoothly.
Light gaming is possible, but graphic-intensive titles will require low settings.
With up to 6GB of RAM (including virtual expansion) and 128GB storage, multitasking is surprisingly decent for the price.
Camera: Simple and Functional
The dual-camera setup includes an 8MP main sensor and a 0.08MP auxiliary lens. Daylight photos are usable for social media, but don’t expect detail or dynamic range beyond basic shots. The 5MP front camera handles video calls and selfies adequately. Low-light performance is limited—this is strictly a daytime shooter.
Verdict: Who Should Buy It?
Buy the Redmi A3 if:
You want a stunning design rarely seen in budget phones.
You prioritize battery life and a smooth display.
You need a reliable device for calls, texts, and light apps.
Skip it if:
You demand high-quality cameras or gaming performance.
You prefer USB-C charging or sharper displays.
Alternatives: The Realme C51 offers USB-C and a higher-resolution display, but the Redmi A3 wins on design and software cleanliness.
