Ration Card Rules: If you are a ration card holder, you likely receive the free ration provided by the government. If you visit a government ration shop but forget your ration card at home, you no longer need to return empty-handed. Clarifying this on its official social media platforms, the government said people can collect rations even without the physical ration card.
Government Providing Free Ration Facility
The central government runs a scheme for the economically weaker and needy sections under the National Food Security Act. This scheme provides subsidised rations to eligible beneficiaries. Ration card holders often leave their cards at home in a rush when heading to the dealer to collect rations.
In such situations, beneficiaries often have to make repeated trips to the government ration shop. To address this issue, the government announced via its official social media handles that it will provide rations even to those who do not bring their ration cards.
What is the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ Scheme?
The government’s ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme is highly impressive. This system is completely digital and transparent. Under this system, the ration distribution database across the country is linked to Aadhaar cards. Consequently, if a beneficiary forgets their ration card at home, they can simply enter their Aadhaar number at the ration shop to prove their eligibility. The biggest advantage of this scheme is that you can collect your ration from any ration shop in the country, even outside your home state or district.
How to Get Ration If You Forget Your Card
First, the ration dealer will enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number or ration card number into the POS machine. Next, the machine will scan your fingerprints or iris to match the biometric data. Once the data matches, the machine will display details for all family members and the entitled ration allocation.
Upon verifying your identity, the dealer will issue the ration based on your entitlement and provide a receipt. This facility is available only to beneficiaries whose Aadhaar cards are linked to their ration cards.
Why are e-PoS machines being used?
The government has made e-PoS machines mandatory at ration shops. This measure curbs fraud and the black marketing of rations. Biometric authentication ensures rations reach only genuine, eligible individuals, whether or not they have a physical card.
