Ration Card e-KYC Update: The government is continuously working to ensure transparency in the distribution of rations. As part of this effort, it has been made mandatory for ration cardholders to complete e-KYC. The e-KYC process ensures that the benefits of government-subsidised rations reach the intended, eligible recipients. Consequently, it has become necessary for all individuals—including those whose names may not yet be explicitly listed on the ration card—to undergo e-KYC.

During the e-KYC process, the identities of the individuals listed on the ration card are verified using Aadhaar and biometric data. This is highly effective in identifying ineligible individuals and duplicate ration cards.

Why is e-KYC necessary for ration cards?
Completing e-KYC offers several benefits to ration cardholders. It helps in maintaining accurate, up-to-date information about beneficiaries in government records. Biometric verification is used to confirm the identity of each beneficiary. Furthermore, e-KYC facilitates the identification of ineligible individuals. Through Aadhaar seeding, the identities of all eligible ration cardholders are secured. Through this process, the government is able to ensure that ration benefits reach eligible individuals.

How to complete e-KYC for a ration card?
You do not need to run around or visit multiple places to complete the e-KYC for your ration card; you simply need to follow a few easy steps.
To complete the e-KYC, ration cardholders should visit their nearest government ration shop along with their family members.
Once there, ask the dealer to carry out the e-KYC process.
You will then need to provide an Aadhaar-based biometric authentication using the e-POS machine available at the shop.
For the e-KYC, you must place your thumb (or finger) on the machine’s scanner.
Once the verification is successful, your e-KYC process will be complete.

e-KYC is mandatory for all family members.
It is essential to complete the e-KYC for every member of the family to ensure that ration benefits continue to be provided for everyone. e-KYC is not limited to the head of the family alone. If any member’s biometric verification cannot be completed, they should contact the ration dealer or the Department of Food and Supplies. The e-KYC process may vary from state to state; therefore, it is advisable to verify the specific requirements before proceeding.
