Post Office Senior Citizens Savings Scheme: After retirement, individuals typically lose their regular income. As a result, they must depend on their retirement corpus for daily expenses. However, if they keep withdrawing from this corpus, it will eventually run out. The ideal strategy is to invest the retirement corpus in a secure option and utilize the interest earned to manage expenses. This investment should also yield consistent interest income.
India Post has a solution for senior citizens facing this issue. They offer the Senior Citizen Savings Scheme Account, which provides a fantastic interest rate of 8.2%. You can invest a lump sum in this scheme in increments of Rs 1,000, with a maximum investment limit of Rs 30 lakh.
Individuals aged 60 and above are eligible to open this account. As indicated by its name, the Senior Citizens Savings Scheme is available to those over 60 years old. When you invest a lump sum, you will receive interest payments every three months. Notably, the amount you invest in this scheme is tax-exempt under Section 80C, and the interest income is also tax-free.
Maturity can be extended in blocks of 3 years each. Additionally, you have the option to open a joint account under the Post Office Senior Citizens Savings Scheme.
