How the Annual Toll Pass Works
The ATP will be valid for one year from the activation date or until 200 trips are completed, whichever comes first. Once the limit is reached, the pass automatically switches back to a regular FASTag account. Activation requests can be made through the RajmargYatra mobile app, with passes becoming active from August 15. Motorists can purchase another ATP if the trip limit is exhausted early.
Booking Process for ATP
The pre-booking option for Android users is already live on the RajmargYatra mobile app. iOS users and those accessing the official NHAI portal (nhai.gov.in) can start booking from Thursday onwards. This streamlined process allows vehicle owners to secure the pass without visiting any physical office or toll booth.
Coverage and Toll Plaza List
The ATP is applicable across all NHAI-maintained toll plazas in the country. In Tamil Nadu alone, there are 74 toll plazas on national highways with a daily collection ranging from Rs 3 crore to Rs 14 crore. A complete list of applicable toll plazas is available in the RajmargYatra app, ensuring users can check where they can use the pass before travelling.
Cost Savings for Motorists
With an average toll fee of around Rs 15 per crossing under the ATP, motorists will see significant cost benefits. For example, frequent highway travellers can save thousands of rupees annually. This scheme is expected to attract heavy interest from those regularly commuting between cities or across state borders.
Special Conditions and Exceptions
While the ATP is accepted at NHAI toll plazas, it does not apply to certain state-managed toll points such as Vandalur-Minjur Outer Ring Road, ECR (Uthandi Toll Plaza), and Madurai Ring Road managed by TNRIDC. In such cases, charges will be deducted from the regular FASTag account. Monthly pass holders within a 20 km radius of specific toll gates will also see charges deducted from their monthly plan.
What Counts as a Trip
For point-based fee plazas, each crossing counts as one trip, and a round trip counts as two. For closed tolling systems, such as expressways and access-controlled highways, one entry-exit pair counts as a single trip. This clarity ensures motorists understand how their 200-trip limit is calculated.
FASTag Registration Requirement
The ATP cannot be issued for FASTags registered with only a chassis number. Vehicle owners must have their Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) updated in the FASTag account to activate the pass. This requirement ensures proper identification and usage across all applicable toll plazas.
