It is directed by Lee Cronin, whose previous film 'The Hole in the Ground' was also highly appreciated. The story of 'Evil Dead Rise' revolves around two estranged sisters, who have to fight a terrible evil to save their lives.
The twist in the story comes when an evil spirit comes out of an earthquake and starts taking over everything that comes in its way.
'Evil Dead Rise' is the fifth and latest film in this famous franchise. We've previously seen Sam Raimi's 'The Evil Dead', 'Evil Dead II' and 'Army of Darkness', as well as Fede Alvarez's 2013 'Evil Dead'. So, it's only fitting that this is the latest installment in the series!
What happens in 'Evil Dead Rise'?
The plot of the film is as follows: Beth (Lily Sullivan) and her sister, Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) haven't spoken in weeks. Ellie was busy touring and didn't know that her sister's partner, Jay, left her. But – surprise! – now Ellie is in town to visit Beth and her three kids: Danny (Morgan Davis), Bridget (Gabrielle Echols) and Cassie (Nelson Fisher).
It's a little awkward at first, but they're all trying to figure it out… and then there's a massive earthquake. The earthquake opens up a secret chamber in the old apartment building where Beth lives.
When Danny goes to check it out, he finds an old book and some records that have the power to unleash evil spirits – called Deadites. These spirits can possess anyone in an instant!
