Paytm: Good news for Paytm investors. If you own Paytm shares or are considering investing in the company, there is important news for you. One97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, a fintech company, has revealed that it will discuss the proposal for issuing bonus shares for the first time during its meeting scheduled for July 20 along with the June quarter (Q1 FY27) results. If this proposal gets the green light, it will mark Paytm’s initial bonus offering since its stock market debut in 2021. However, the specific ratio of the bonus shares and the record date for distribution have not been disclosed yet.
Bonus shares are a way for a company to grant existing shareholders additional shares at no extra cost. For instance, in a 1:1 bonus scenario, an investor receives one extra share for every share they hold. While this action expands the company’s overall capital, it doesn’t immediately alter the total investment value for the investor. Nevertheless, the announcement of a bonus share issuance is usually viewed positively in the market and can enhance investor interest in the company’s stock.
Paytm has experienced a tumultuous ride in the stock market. Even though the company launched its IPO in November 2021 at Rs 2,150 per share, the stock debuted below the issue price. Subsequent regulatory hurdles and ongoing losses caused a decline to approximately Rs 300. Nonetheless, Paytm has made substantial business advancements recently and seems to be in a more robust position than ever before.
The fiscal year 2025-26 marked a significant turning point for Paytm as it achieved a net profit (PAT) of Rs 552 crore for the entire fiscal year for the first time. Operating revenue rose by 22% to Rs 8,437 crore. The company’s EBITDA also stayed positive, showing an improvement of Rs 2,008 crore compared to the previous year. This progress has garnered increased trust from major domestic and international investors.
The ownership structure also reflects this confidence. By the conclusion of the June 2026 quarter, domestic investors’ stake in the company rose to 51.6% from 50.3% in the preceding quarter. Paytm has maintained its status as an Indian-Owned and Controlled Company (IOCC) for the second consecutive quarter. Mutual funds and insurance companies have also raised their investments in the company. Notable institutional investors like Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund, Nippon India Mutual Fund, Mirae Asset, Kotak Mutual Fund, Bandhan Mutual Fund, and SBI Life Insurance have increased their holdings in Paytm.
Global brokerage firm Goldman Sachs also holds an optimistic view on Paytm. The brokerage anticipates that if the company sustains revenue growth above 20% and the financial services segment continues to perform well, the stock’s valuation could further improve in the future. Investors are eagerly awaiting the board meeting on July 20th when the company will disclose its June quarter results and finalize the decision on the bonus share issuance. Approval of the bonus shares could be a significant corporate development for Paytm investors and might trigger additional movement in the stock.
