Ingredients for Petha Laddus

400 grams petha (grated)

Half litre milk

Desiccated coconut (grated, easily available in the market)

Kewra water or rose water (2 teaspoons)

Petha Laddus Recipe

Grate the petha. Grate half a kilo of petha and keep it aside.

Boil milk. Put half a litre of milk in a pan and keep it to cook. Keep in mind – the more petha, the more milk. The quantity of both should be approximately equal.

Add petha – When the milk comes to a boil, add all the grated petha. First, keep stirring on a high flame and let it cook a little.

Lower the flame – Now slow down the gas flame. Once the petha is cooked properly, it will dissolve in the milk and will turn golden in colour. The colour of the milk will look exactly like khova.

Wait for it to thicken – When the mixture becomes completely thick and starts appearing dry at the edges, then add 2 teaspoons of kewra water or rose water to it. This will give a different flavor to the laddu.

Switch off the flame – When you feel the need to scrape the pan, turn off the gas and mix everything well.

Add coconut – Now add desiccated coconut to it. If you do not like the taste of raw coconut, then roast it lightly. This will remove the rawness.

Make laddus – mix by stirring the mixer. When it becomes cool enough to be touched with hands, prepare round laddus.

Coconut coating –  Take out the coconut in a plate to coat the top with coconut. Turn the laddus once in this plate and keep them aside.

Petha laddus will be ready instantly with less effort.

Are Petha and Pumpkin the same?

Would like to tell you one important thing here. What we usually call petha is actually a white pumpkin, i.e. ash gourd, and not the green pumpkin which is used as a vegetable. Agra’s famous petha sweet is made from petha, i.e. ash gourd. The special thing is that eating petha, i.e. white pumpkin, during Navratri fast is considered satvik and is used in the fast. So when you are offering petha laddu to Maa Kushmanda, you are using the right thing.

Best option for Prasad

Petha laddus are easy to make and perfectly tasty to eat. There is no need to add sugar or anything else separately to make these. If you have to make a lot of laddus for distributing Prasad, then these are the best option.

Well, if you are not able to make laddus, then it doesn’t matter. Grease a large plate or tray with ghee and spread the mixture evenly, and let it cool. Then cut the barfi into square or diamond shapes. Prasad is ready! So what is the delay? This Navratri, offer petha laddus to Maa Kushmanda and get her blessings. Hail Mother Goddess!
