Free Cylinders on Holi and Diwali

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a scheme to provide free LPG cylinders to eligible beneficiaries on Holi and Diwali. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manoj Pandey stated that the government has allocated a budget of ₹2,142 crore for this scheme. The government notes that cooking with LPG has significantly reduced the problems associated with using wood fuel and the resulting smoke. Expenses related to gas cylinders often rise during the festive season; therefore, this scheme will prove extremely helpful for women who hold gas connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

Which women will receive the benefit of free gas cylinders?

Eligible beneficiaries will receive the benefit of gas refills on the occasions of Holi and Diwali. This scheme is available exclusively to eligible women associated with the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The government launched this initiative to provide relief from cooking gas expenses to poor and needy families—specifically those who have to spend money from their budgets to get gas cylinders refilled every month.

Reports indicate that approximately 1.86 crore female beneficiaries in the state are covered under this scheme. Meanwhile, the state government has made a budgetary provision of around ₹2,142 crore for the implementation of the scheme.
