Maa Shailputri Vrat Katha: On the first day of Navratri, Maa Shailputri is worshipped. The form of Maa Shailputri is very gentle. Maa is riding a bull and has a trident in her right hand and a lotus flower in her left hand. Maa Shailputri is considered to be the daughter of Parvataraja Himalaya. It is believed that Maa fulfills all the wishes of her devotees and helps in awakening the Muladhara Chakra of the seeker. The Muladhara Chakra is the center of energy in our body which provides us stability and security. Apart from this, it is said that by reading and listening to the fast story in the worship of Maa Shailputri, all the wishes of a person are fulfilled.

According to mythology, Maa Shailputri was the daughter of King Daksha Prajapati, whose name was Sati. She was married to Lord Shiva but King Daksha Prajapati did not want his daughter to marry Shiva. He wanted to get Sati married to Lord Vishnu. Because of this, he was angry with his daughter Sati and Lord Shiva. Once Prajapati Daksha decided to perform a yagya. For this, he sent invitations to all the gods and goddesses but did not invite his daughter Sati and son-in-law Lord Shiva.
Goddess Sati was restless to go to that yagya. Lord Shiva forbade her to go without invitation but Sat did not listen and remained adamant on her stubbornness. After this, Mahadev was forced to send her.
Maa Shailputri ki Kahani
When Sati reached her father Prajapati Daksha’s place, no one treated her lovingly there. They ridiculed her and Lord Shiva, due to which Goddess Sati was hurt. She could not tolerate the insult of her husband and sat in the yagya kund located there in anger. When Shiva came to know about this, he reached there burning in the flames of grief and anger and destroyed the yagya. It is said that after this, Goddess Sati took birth as Himalaya’s daughter Parvati. Being the daughter of Himalaya, Goddess Parvati was known as Shailputri.
