The ICC has laid down certain rules regarding playing for the senior Indian team. Due to these rules, the BCCI cannot give him a chance to play for the Indian team.

Here’s what the ICC rule is

Everyone wants to see Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a century in the Under-19 World Cup final, play for the senior Indian team. But an ICC rule is preventing this. According to ICC rules, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is currently too young to play for the senior team.

According to the ICC rule implemented in 2020, a player must be at least 15 years old to play international cricket. The ICC made this rule keeping in mind the physical and mental safety of the players. According to reports, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was born on March 27, 2011.

When he won the Under-19 World Cup in February 2026, he was only 14 years old. This means that even if he performs brilliantly for Bihar or scores a century for Rajasthan in the IPL, it is not possible to include him in the senior team before March 27, 2027.

He won’t be able to play in the Under-19 World Cup again.

Due to his young age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi cannot be a part of the senior Indian team yet. Another surprising fact is that he will not be able to participate in the Under-19 World Cup again either. The BCCI has a strict rule that a player can only participate in the Under-19 World Cup once.

The purpose of this rule is to give new players a chance in each tournament and prevent any player from becoming an age-group “specialist.” After being named Player of the Tournament in the 2026 Under-19 World Cup, Vaibhav is now ineligible to play in the 2028 or 2030 U19 World Cups, even though he would still be within the age limit.
