Upcoming Kia Hybrid Cars in India: The demand for hybrid cars in India is gradually rising, and Kia is poised to make a significant move in this segment. The company is preparing to introduce hybrid technology in models such as the Sonet, Seltos, Carens, and Carnival. This lineup will range from compact SUVs to premium MPVs. This will directly benefit consumers who desire the driving experience of a petrol car combined with the superior efficiency of an electric motor. Let’s look at the details.
Next-Gen Kia Sonet Hybrid
The Kia Sonet is expected to receive a new-generation update in 2027. For the new Sonet, the company may utilise the K1 modular platform, which Kia also uses for the Syros and Hyundai uses for the Venue. This platform supports various powertrains, including strong-hybrid technology.
The new Sonet Hybrid is expected to feature a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with an electric motor and battery setup. This combination could enhance the compact SUV’s fuel efficiency. Reports suggest the company is aiming for a mileage of approximately 28 to 30 kmpl. Between 2028 and 2029, the hybrid version is expected to arrive in India.

Kia Seltos Hybrid (2027)
The Kia Seltos Hybrid is one of the company’s most important upcoming hybrid models for India. Kia has confirmed plans to bring the Seltos Hybrid to the Indian market, with a launch expected within the next one to two years—potentially in late 2027.
The Seltos Hybrid is expected to feature a strong-hybrid system combining a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with an electric motor. This same powertrain may debut earlier in the next-generation Hyundai Creta, which is expected to launch in early 2027. The Seltos Hybrid is anticipated to deliver a real-world fuel economy of around 25 kmpl. Carens and Carens Clavis Hybrid
The Kia Carens and the new Carens Clavis are also set to receive a hybrid powertrain. The company is considering introducing hybrid versions of both these models in India. The Carens and Carens Clavis Hybrid are expected to feature the same 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain as the Seltos. A major advantage of this setup could be superior low-end torque.
Both these hybrid MPVs are expected to launch in the Indian market around 2028. This move will extend Kia’s hybrid technology beyond SUVs, bringing it into the family MPV segment as well.

Kia Carnival Hybrid
The Carnival Hybrid could represent the most premium aspect of Kia’s hybrid strategy. It will feature a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 54kW electric motor and a 1.49kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Together, this powertrain is expected to deliver a combined output of approximately 245 hp and 367 Nm of torque.
The Carnival Hybrid will not just receive a powertrain upgrade; there will also be a strong emphasis on luxury features. It is expected to come equipped with premium amenities such as second-row VIP lounge seats, dual sunroofs, curved panoramic screens, Level 2 ADAS, and triple-zone climate control.
