IndiGo has raised its charges for various services including infant travel, unaccompanied minors, priority check-in and boarding, extra baggage, and travel certificates. Traveling with little ones comes with a higher price tag. Families traveling with babies are facing some challenging news. The fee for infant passengers has gone up from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000, which is an increase of Rs 1,000. This applies to babies under the age of two.
Under this policy, infants don’t get their own seat, but they do need to be registered on the booking. Experts estimate this adjustment will touch around 1 million families traveling with infants and could bring in roughly Rs 90 crore in extra revenue for the airline.
Packing extra luggage will cost you more
If you’re bringing more baggage than allowed, IndiGo will now charge you a steeper price. The rate for excess baggage has climbed to Rs 800 per kilogram from the previous Rs 700, meaning each extra kilogram now costs Rs 100 more. To give you an example, if you’re carrying 5 kg over your baggage allowance, you’ll pay Rs 4,000 instead of the earlier Rs 3,500. On top of that, the charge for traveling minors without an adult has jumped from Rs 5,000 to Rs 5,999.
Priority services now have higher fees too
IndiGo has also bumped up the cost of priority check-in and boarding from Rs 450 to Rs 650, adding Rs 200 to your expenses. Additionally, if you need a travel certificate, the fee has increased from Rs 200 to Rs 300.
A dominant player in India’s aviation market
IndiGo commands more than 66 percent of India’s domestic aviation market and is actively expanding its international presence. The airline plans to introduce wide-body A350-900 aircraft starting in 2028. With over 900 aircraft on order, IndiGo currently operates a fleet of more than 430 planes and runs approximately 2,200 flights.
