Weather Warning – Heavy Rain Alert for 14 States — 50-60 km/h Winds & Storms Till May 26
Weather Warning: The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall accompanied by stormy winds across more than 14 states of the country. Meanwhile, an alert regarding severe heatwaves has been issued for several other states. So, let’s find out what the weather is going to be like tomorrow, May 21st.
Heavy Rain Alert
Weather Warning: Changes are being observed in weather patterns across the country. On one hand, the plains of North and Central India are experiencing severe heat. On the other hand, alerts regarding thunderstorms, squalls, and torrential rain have been issued for much of the country ahead of the monsoon’s onset. Conditions are favourable for the monsoon to advance further into parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, the Comorin region, and the southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal over the next three to four days.
The monsoon is expected to reach Kerala on May 26. According to the Meteorological Department, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist in Northwest and Central India throughout this week, and in East India over the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in East India between May 21 and May 26, 2026.
The Meteorological Department has also forecast heavy rainfall at several places across Kerala, Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Lakshadweep today and tomorrow (May 20–21).
Weather in Bihar and Jharkhand
Strong winds, gusting at 50–60 km/h, are expected in Jharkhand today (May 20) and on May 23 and 24, while similar conditions are anticipated in Bihar on May 22. The Meteorological Department has also indicated that dusty storms accompanied by rain will continue on May 25 and 26, with wind speeds ranging from 40–50 km/h.
Weather in West Bengal and Odisha
According to the Meteorological Department, a warning for severe squalls has been issued for Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha for May 21. Additionally, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim for the period between May 22 and May 24.

Weather in Northeast India
According to the Meteorological Department, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. **Weather in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal**
In Jammu & Kashmir, a thunderstorm accompanied by winds gusting at 50–60 km/h is likely tomorrow, May 21. Additionally, in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, there is a possibility of rain and strong winds (40–50 km/h), accompanied by lightning, between May 21 and May 23.
Northeast India Weather
– The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in Assam and Meghalaya on May 23 and 24; and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on May 20 and 21. Furthermore, light to moderate rainfall is expected across a wide area.
– The Meteorological Department also forecasts a possibility of isolated very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh on May 22, 25, and 26; and in Assam and Meghalaya on May 21, 22, and 26.
– During the period from May 22 to May 26, heavy rainfall is likely in certain areas of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
– Isolated instances of very heavy rainfall are also possible in Arunachal Pradesh on May 23 and 24, and in Assam and Meghalaya between May 23 and May 25.
Weather in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi
Severe heatwave conditions are anticipated in several parts of these regions today and tomorrow (May 20–21), and again from May 24 to May 26.
Weather in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh
The spell of severe heatwave conditions will persist continuously in Western Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh until May 26. In Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha, conditions are expected to remain extremely severe until May 23. Additionally, nights in both UP and MP are expected to be extremely hot and uncomfortable.
