Period Leave – Good news for working womens. Women suffer the pain of menstruation every month. The Karnataka government has taken a major decision to promote the health of working women and equality in the workplace. The Karnataka Cabinet approved the Menstrual Leave Policy-2025 on Thursday. All working women will now be granted one day of paid period leave each month.
Its benefits will not only be available to women government employees but also to women working in textile industry, multinational companies, IT firms and various other sectors.

“The Cabinet today approved at least one day’s leave for women working in various sectors, from apparel to information technology,” state Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil said after the meeting. The Cabinet also approved several key proposals in the labour, infrastructure, urban development, education, social welfare and tourism sectors.
Already implemented in these states
It should be noted that the Karnataka government had proposed providing six periods of leave per year in 2024, but has now decided to increase it by one day per month, totaling 12 days. With this, Karnataka has now become one of the few states in the country where women are granted period leave. In Bihar, women receive two periods of leave per month. Furthermore, Odisha recently announced a one-day period leave for women working in government departments.
