Monsoon Update: The new year 2026 has begun, and several states are experiencing severe cold. People are suffering greatly due to the cold and dense fog. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dense fog in many parts of Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh on January 2nd. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has also issued an alert about rain amid fog and a cold wave.

The Meteorological Department predicts that the weather will remain harsh during the first week of January. North India is expected to experience severe cold, cold waves, and fog. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in several states. According to the Meteorological Department, bone-chilling cold is expected in many parts of the country, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, UP, Bihar, and Odisha, during the next 5 to 7 days. Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast
The minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to be around 7-9 degrees Celsius. Due to dense fog, there may be delays in flights and train operations in the coming days. The Meteorological Department says that the cold wave conditions may persist until January 5th.

Weather conditions in Uttar Pradesh
A ‘yellow alert’ has been issued for dense fog in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Rainfall is expected in these states.

According to the Meteorological Department, an alert has been issued for light to moderate rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on January 2nd. In addition, thunderstorms are possible in several areas. Dense fog and cold-day conditions will persist in Himachal Pradesh until January 5th.

Dense Fog Warning
According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog is likely to prevail in many areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi during the night and morning hours until January 6th. In addition, similar weather conditions may persist in Odisha until January 5th, in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh until January 2nd, and in some parts of Rajasthan until January 3rd. Dense fog may persist in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad until January 4th. Thick fog is also likely in Himachal Pradesh from January 2nd to 5th, in Uttarakhand until January 5th, and in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi from January 7th to 8th. Dense fog may also occur in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh until January 8th, in Rajasthan until January 4th, and in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh until January 3rd.
