New Delhi: So far, 32 people, including pilgrims, have died due to a landslide on the Vaishno Dev Yatra route in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. The situation remains critical, due to which everyone is very worried. NDRF teams are working continuously for relief and rescue. Many people were swept away in the flow of water due to a cloudburst near Ardhkunwari yesterday.

Many people even lost their lives in this. The Yatra has been completely stopped by the administration. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. The condition of all is said to be stable, i.e. fine. People trapped in the debris have been taken out. The dead have been identified, whose bodies will be sent home for last rites. The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir is receiving updates every moment of the devastation caused by the wrath of nature.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that this is very unfortunate. Yesterday afternoon, a decision was taken to stop the Yatra due to a cloudburst. Due to a cloudburst near Ardhkunwari, many people were swept away by the water current. Many people also lost their lives. Some people were badly injured.

I have met the injured; their condition is stable, and they are being given proper treatment. Along with this, many dead have been identified. Arrangements are being made to send their bodies home. There is no compensation for death, but Rs 5 lakh will be given as per the policy of the Shrine Board. Disaster Management will also work to give Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased.

We will ensure that such an incident does not happen in future – CM

Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah said on Wednesday that today there was some relief, because the rain had stopped. Now the water has started decreasing in the low-lying areas. The damage caused by the disaster is in front of you. In 2014 also a part of this bridge was also damaged. This means that there is some risk associated with this part of the bridge.

We have to ensure that such an incident does not happen again. We will also have to take steps for the houses located on the riverbank. Relief and rescue work has started. Omar Abdullah further said that I have spoken to PM Narendra Modi and given him detailed information. During this, he assured that the central government will provide all possible help.
