New Delhi: Relations between the US and Iran have once again soured. The main reason is the protests against the Iranian government by its people. US President Donald Trump has also vowed to teach Iran a lesson.
He warned the world that anyone who enters into a trade agreement with Iran will face US tariffs. The US will impose an additional 25 per cent tariff on countries trading with Iran. This will also affect India, as Iran is a trading partner of India.
Meanwhile, the new US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, stated a day earlier that India and the US would resume negotiations on a proposed trade agreement on Tuesday. Following this announcement, the stock market saw a surge.
Donald Trump’s stern warning
US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning, stating that if any country enters into a trade agreement with Iran, the US will increase tariffs on those countries. This move by Trump is being seen as an attempt to increase economic pressure on Iran. Violent protests have been ongoing in Iran for more than two weeks.
Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened the Iranian government with intervention in the protests. Donald Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform that the US’s 22 per centtariff will be immediately effective on those trading with Iran. Among the countries that will be affected by Trump’s move are India and China.
