Haidilao Soup Incident: China’s largest hotpot chain Haidilao has offered compensation to more than 4,000 customers who dined at its Shanghai branch after two boys defecated in their hotpot soup.
In fact, last month a video of one of Haidilao’s outlets went viral. In this, the boys were seen defecating in their soup pot while eating in a room. The video of defecating in the soup and the pot was shared a lot online. It is not clear who filmed the incident.
The boy was drunk
The police said that the 17-year-old teenager who did this, who was drunk at the time, was taken into custody immediately after the incident. However, there is no clue that anyone drank that soup broth. Haidilao has apologized to the customers and said that it has replaced all hotpot equipment and eating utensils, as well as disinfected other crockery and utensils.
Utensils and necessary equipment are provided for cooking at Haidilao
Actually, people eating at Haidilao use their personal hotpot equipment to cook their food and thus any kind of soup is not reused for other customers. However, in this case it is not clear whether the hotpot was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before being used by the next customer.
Compensation will be given 10 times more than the bill
According to the BBC report, the company said in a statement that we fully understand that the trouble caused to our customers by this incident cannot be compensated in any way, but we will try our best to take responsibility for it. Haidilao said that the customers who had food at the outlet between February 24 and March 8 will be refunded the full amount, after which cash compensation will be given which will be 10 times the amount of the bill.
