New Delhi: The Election Commission has released the draft voter lists for some states, including West Bengal, after a special intensive revision. The draft list for West Bengal shows the removal of over 58 lakh voters’ names. This includes deceased, transferred, and duplicate voters. Lists for Rajasthan, Goa, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep have also been released.

According to official reports, after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted in West Bengal from November 4 to December 11, the names of 58,20,898 people have been removed from the draft voter list. This has reduced the total number of voters in the state from 7,66,37,529 to 7,08,16,630. In Rajasthan, approximately 42 lakh voters have also been removed from the voter list.

Observer addresses concerns

Subrata Gupta, the special electoral roll observer for West Bengal and a former bureaucrat, provided important information. Addressing concerns, he said that voters whose names are not in the draft voter list need not panic. He explained that approximately 30 lakh voters, whose details could not be matched with the 2002 voter list, will be called for a hearing, where they will have the opportunity to present documents and prove their eligibility before a final decision is made.

42 lakh people removed from the voter list in Rajasthan

The Election Commission informed that after the SIR process in Rajasthan, the names of approximately 42 lakh voters have been removed from the draft list out of a total of 5,46,56,215 voters. Out of the total 5,46,56,215 voters in Rajasthan, 5,04,71,396 voters submitted their enumeration forms.

41,84,819 did not submit the forms. According to the ECI, 8.75 lakh voters were found to be deceased, and 29.6 lakh voters were found to be shifted/absent. Approximately 11 lakh voters will be issued notices to submit their documents. Over 100,000 voters were removed from the list.

According to the Election Commission’s report, approximately 100,000 voters have been removed from the draft electoral roll in Goa, out of a total of 1,084,992 registered voters. Of the 1,185,034 eligible voters in the state, 1,084,992 submitted their forms. The names of 100,042 people were not included in the draft list.
