New Delhi: The wounds of the stampede at Prayagraj Mahakumbh had not yet healed when a similar painful incident at the New Delhi railway station forced everyone to shed tears. The death toll in the stampede at New Delhi railway station late Saturday night has increased to 18. The condition of people is still critical.
The death toll is still feared to rise, with women, men and children among the deceased. Nine people from Bihar are reported to be among the dead. President Draupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the tragic accident. The reason for the stampede is said to be the large crowd gathering on the platform. Orders for investigation into the matter have been given.
Children and women among the dead
Due to the stampede on platform number 14 of New Delhi railway station, there was chaos. Looking at the scene of the incident, one can imagine how terrible the situation would have been at the time of the stampede. After the accident, mutilated bodies were lying on the platform. Among the dead are 9 women, 4 men and 5 children. Among them, the highest number are from Bihar (9), followed by Delhi (8) and one from Haryana.
The incident happened around 10 pm. At the time of the incident, thousands of devotees were trying to board the train at the station to go to Prayagraj Mahakumbh. As soon as the incident was reported, former Delhi CM Atishi and LG VK Saxena reached the hospital.
Modi expressed grief
PM Modi has expressed grief over the death of 18 people at the railway station. He wrote in a post on X, ‘Saddened by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My condolences are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover soon. The authorities are assisting all those affected by this stampede.
