Ayushman Card Eligibility: Who Cannot Get Ayushman Bharat Free Health Cover in India

Date:

Ayushman Card Eligibility: To provide financial relief to different sections of society, both the central and state governments in India run several welfare schemes. The primary aim of these initiatives is to make life easier for the general public, especially economically vulnerable individuals. Recognising healthcare needs, the government launched the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), which provides free medical treatment to eligible families.

Under this scheme, millions of beneficiaries are already receiving cashless treatment at government and empanelled private hospitals. However, not everyone qualifies for an Ayushman card. Before applying, please verify that your name is on the eligibility list.

Who Is the Ayushman Bharat Scheme Meant For?

The Ayushman Bharat scheme is explicitly designed for economically weaker and needy sections of society. For this reason, certain groups have been excluded from benefits. Individuals employed in the organised sector are not eligible for this scheme.

Employees whose Provident Fund (PF) is deducted from their salary are also excluded. In addition, government employees are not eligible for benefits under the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme.

Income-Based Restrictions for Ayushman Card

People who are financially well-off or whose income exceeds the prescribed limit are not included in the beneficiary list. Similarly, individuals who are already covered under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) scheme are not eligible for Ayushman Bharat benefits.

Additionally, income taxpayers are excluded from the scheme, as it is strictly targeted at low-income households without access to affordable healthcare.

How to Check Ayushman Card Eligibility Online?

If you are unsure whether you qualify for the Ayushman Bharat scheme, you can check eligibility online. First, visit the official website at pmjay.gov.in. On the homepage, you will find multiple options. Click on the “Am I Eligible” section.

A new page will open where you need to enter your mobile number along with the captcha code. After completing this step, you will be asked to provide details such as your state, district, and other basic information.

Once all details are submitted correctly, the system will immediately indicate whether you are eligible for an Ayushman card. This helps applicants gain clarity in advance and saves time before they start the application process.

Why Checking Eligibility Is Important?

Understanding Ayushman Card eligibility before applying helps ensure you are accepted later. It also helps people who genuinely need free medical treatment to access healthcare services without financial stress. If you qualify, you can use your Ayushman card at government and registered private hospitals nationwide for cashless treatment.
