India Bangladesh Train: Big news for indian and bangladesh railway passengers. You have probably taken flights to travel between two countries before, but now there is the exciting prospect of traveling by train between these countries. Travelers journeying between India and Bangladesh can look forward to the resumption of train services between the two nations. What makes this development even more special is the plan to introduce new railway services. A meeting is set to take place to kickstart the train services.
What Are The Key Points?
Railway officials from both India and Bangladesh are slated to convene on Tuesday for a crucial discussion regarding the revival of train services. There might be a proposal to initiate a new train route connecting Rajshahi in Bangladesh with Kolkata during this meeting. Additionally, Bangladesh is considering rerouting the Maitree Express via the Padma Bridge instead of the Jamuna Bridge, pending mutual agreement between the two countries.
Plans are in motion to resume operations of the Mithali, Maitri, and Bandhan Expresses, with a target to relaunch these trains by October. These services were halted in July 2024 due to security concerns amid significant unrest and political changes in Bangladesh. Now, efforts are underway to reinstate them.
A Bangladesh railway official informed that discussions on the re-launch of railway services such as Maitree, Bandhan, and Mitali Express are scheduled to take place during the Inter-Governmental Railway Meeting (IGRM) starting tomorrow. The Maitree Express connects Dhaka to Kolkata, the Bandhan Express links Khulna to Kolkata, and the Mitali Express previously connected Dhaka to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. The official mentioned that Bangladesh plans to propose a new train route linking Rajshahi in the north-west with Kolkata. Additionally, Dhaka is likely to suggest changing the Maitree Express route to run between Dhaka and Kolkata via the newly constructed Padma Bridge instead of the Jamuna Bridge.
