HDFC Bank: Big news for HDFC bank customers. HDFC Bank, the largest private sector bank in the country, has made an important decision regarding its workforce. The bank will gradually transition employees who were previously engaged in backend operations to customer service roles. This change means these employees will now directly interact with customers visiting the branch and assist in resolving their issues.
According to the bank, advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and new technologies have streamlined many backend tasks, allowing for better use of employee skills. This information was shared by HDFC Bank’s MD and CEO, Sashidhar Jagdishan, in his letter to shareholders included in the bank’s annual report. The bank emphasizes that due to computers and modern technology, tasks that were once challenging for employees are now much simpler. As a result, the bank is moving these employees into frontline positions that directly support customers.

Currently, two major priorities for banks are preventing online fraud and swiftly addressing customer complaints and disputes. To aid its frontline staff, the bank is equipping them with new digital tools and extensive information to resolve customer issues promptly.
AI will also enhance cybersecurity
Jagdishan noted that as digital banking grows, cyberattacks have become increasingly sophisticated. Consequently, the bank is consistently fortifying its cybersecurity measures. He explained that the bank has started to gradually integrate AI-based technologies into its security protocols, which allows for quicker detection of suspicious activities and enables security teams to respond more effectively and accurately.

The ‘Neev’ AI model will assist in this effort
HDFC Bank has developed its own AI platform, Neev, which monitors the bank’s security systems around the clock. Neev promptly identifies any unusual or suspicious transactions and alerts the bank’s team, helping to prevent fraud in a timely manner.
Even though the bank is spending a lot of money on computers and AI, the bank’s CEO clarified that bank branches remain just as important for connecting with customers in India’s smaller towns and villages. Having a physical branch is crucial to earning public trust.
