Gigantic Camera Upgrades in the Works
Popular tipster Kartikey Singh on X (formerly Twitter) posted that Xiaomi is bringing drastic changes in the camera section of the 16 Ultra. While the main camera will continue to be a 50MP sensor, it’s reported to be equipped with an improved 1-inch sensor. Although the camera of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra may appear the same on paper, the new sensor can offer better image quality and improved dynamic range, especially in adverse lighting conditions.
Zoom Lens Gets a Larger Sensor
The periscope telephoto lens of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra contained a 200MP sensor that was 1/1.4 inches in size. Xiaomi seems to carry this over now to a larger 1/1.28-inch sensor on the 16 Ultra. This would create an enormous improvement in clarity and detail, particularly in zoomed-in shots and night-time photos. To put this into perspective, this is the same sensor size Apple is utilizing in the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s main camera, placing Xiaomi at the highest level for smartphone cameras.
Improved Ultra-Wide Sensor
Along with the main and telephoto cameras, the ultra-wide camera is also expected to get an upgrade. The Xiaomi 16 Ultra is said to use a 50MP Sony LYT600 sensor that will measure 1/1.95-inches, a giant improvement over the 15 Ultra’s 1/2.76-inch ultra-wide camera. The move would bring more detailed ultra-wide shots with better low-light capabilities, making for a more competent overall camera system.
Battery Gets a Big Boost
Along with the camera, Xiaomi also seems to shatter norms when it comes to battery life. Leaks suggest that the 16 Ultra will be powered by a battery of between 7,000mAh to 7,500mAh. This would be among the biggest batteries seen on a flagship phone in recent times, and it would likely offer multi-day battery life even for heavy use. For power users and photogs alike, this could be revolutionary.
Still Some Time Before Launch
Although the Xiaomi 16 Ultra appears to be chock-full of top-of-the-line upgrades, the phone itself remains some time away from its official launch. Nevertheless, if rumors are anything to go by, it seems Xiaomi is busy with efforts to deliver one of 2025’s most powerful and camera-forward flagships. Expect more information in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
