Vivo V50 vs V40 5G: Vivo revealed the V50 5G as the successor of Vivo V40 5G, but is it rightly priced considering the growth with sufficient changes, or is it a renamed version of the same phone? Let us lay them side by side and see if the V50 5G is an improvement to be reckoned with.

Design and Build: Slender and Sleek

Both phones have a punch-hole screen and in-display fingerprint sensor with a thin profile. The Vivo V40 is a tad thicker at 7.58mm and 190g, while the V50 reduces it to 7.4mm and 189g. It may be small, but the V50 certainly feels that bit more premium to cradle in one’s hand. There is no headphone socket or FM radio, which may be a letdown for some.

Display: Mixed Bag

The V40 5G features a clearer 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with 1260 x 2800 pixels resolution and 453 ppi. The V50 returns to a 6.77-inch screen with 1080 x 2392 pixels resolution and a lower pixel density of 388 ppi. Although both screens are optimized for a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+, the V40 shows clearer images. However, the V50 brings P3 Wide Color Gamut and VM7 light-emitting material technology to create contrast and brightness, both peaking at 4500 nits.

Performance: No Core Specs Change

Under the hood, both devices run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset paired with 8GB RAM (plus 8GB virtual RAM) and 128GB of internal storage. Performance-wise, there’s no difference you’ll get the same multitasking and gaming capabilities. However, neither supports expandable storage, which limits future flexibility.

Camera: Same Hardware, Same Output

Both V40 and V50 come with a dual 50MP + 50MP rear camera setup with OIS and a 50MP front camera. Both support recording 4K video at 30fps. The camera is decent for common users, but don’t expect flagship-level detail and versatility. No significant imaging boost in either of the phones.

Battery and Charging: V50 Paces the Pace

Battery life is where V50 excels. It also comes with a larger 6000mAh battery compared to 5500mAh in V40. Charging on V50’s 90W FlashCharge is faster than 80W on V40. Both smartphones’ reverse charging capability makes it easy to carry them around in order to utilize them as a source of power for other devices while in transit.

Verdict: Small Upgrade, Decide Based on Price

Vivo V50 5G streamlines a couple of things- most critically, battery, charging, and display enhancements It’s not a revolutionary upgrade over the V40 5G. You can likely wait if you already own the V40. But if you’re upgrading and both cost around the same, then the V50 is more worth it, especially in battery life and display choices. But if you can get the V40 for less, it’s an okay buy.
