Some reports, Samsung is working to expand the camera capability that it introduced with the new Galaxy S25 Edge to the whole flagship Galaxy S25 clan. A tipster claims that it might make it possible to record LOG (logarithmic footage) videos using the front-facing selfie camera for the duration of the series. It allows users to record a greater dynamic range, allowing the camera sensor to catch the luminance of both highly bright and very dark areas for better details.

Recording Log Videos on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Series

Tipster IposDev revealed information regarding the potential for Samsung to add LOG video recording to the front cameras of the whole Galaxy S25 series in a post on X (previously Twitter). The accompanying screenshots show that in addition to the current HDR choice in the camera UI, there is a LOG option in the top banner.

As to the leak, users might be able to record in the LOG format at 60 frames per second and Ultra HD (or 4K) resolution. A histogram, which often displays the distribution of luminance and tones of the scene now visible in the camera viewfinder, is also stated to be displayed in the user interface. It is expected that both the Video and Pro Video modes will support shooting in LOG format.

Notably, with the Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung added LOG video recording to the front-facing selfie camera. Although the LOG format is supported by other Galaxy S25 models, such as the flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra, it is restricted to the rear camera only. Samsung’s LOG mode offers a 10-bit HEVC codec which is said to enable better accessibility to codec compatibility and storage.

The South Korean electronics giant claims that the LOG video recording format allows for more flexibility in post-production since it preserves more visual data than conventional filming methods. Also, it shortened the whole production time. If the recorded video is in LOG format, editors can benefit from enhanced tools for managing colors, highlights, shadows, color tones, and other picture data.
