AC Yojana Fake: India’s annual heat record is being broken. People’s lives are becoming more difficult due to the intense and hot sun. People now prefer to stay inside their homes with air conditioning and a cooler in order to avoid this. Due to climate change, air conditioning is becoming a greater necessity in both the city and the village all over the summer. The sales of air conditioners are also rising as summer comes near. But this directly affects how much electricity is used, and it also puts more strain on the power grid.

As to a recent media source, the number of ACs sold annually grew to around 1.1 crore in 2023–2024 from 84 lakh in 2021–2022. As to a popular social media post, 1.5 crore 5-star air conditioners have already been produced and the government would give them away for free under the new “PM Modi AC Yojana 2025” on their own. In actuality, this is merely an idea that was spread by PIB Fact Check in a tweet.

Viral AC scheme was fake.

False statements were made that the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Ministry of Power were creating this plan. This will strengthen India’s long-term scheme, the India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP). In addition, there was discussion of providing a variety of services to the public through this program so that they could conveniently bring a new air conditioner into their homes.
